I had two amethyst cabochons that had great depth of color and were nicely cut. This is one of those stones. When I look down into the stone, it reminds me of a pool of amethyst colored water, thus the title of the piece. The cabochon is 9.75mm in diameter. Amethyst is in the quartz family, so it's a pretty hard material. The gold from the ring is hammered over the gemstone to hold it in place, eliminating the need for prongs. You can break any stone if you hit it hard enough, but this ring is really designed to last.
